Vanguard Resources Inc. (VRI), an Industry Leader in Facilities Management company, (providing maintenance, housekeeping, dietary, security, grounds keeping, & other services), celebrating 28 years in operation, (& still family-owned & operated), is actively recruiting for an hourly, non-exempt, Part Time/As Needed HANDYMAN to assist the retirement community residents, as needed and our internal maintenance team with support, as needed. Although there is not a set schedule and one may be called upon as needed, the job duties require a time commitment and working knowledge MEP principles, with preferably 2 years past experience, working in a maintenance setting.

The Handyman will be responsible for electrical, mechanical and plumbing related repairs. However, may be engaged with landscape maintenance employees to ensure the exterior areas are kept in good condition.

• Perform electrical repairs in community areas, including lights and laundry.
• Ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and fixed as necessary.
• Complete general building cleaning and maintenance.
• Install and replace floors, stairs and piping as needed.
• Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs and other parts of the building.
• Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the facility.
• Maintain and repair air conditioning and heating systems as required.
• All other duties as assigned by leadership team

The Handyman is a maintenance team member who performs routine campus maintenance to our client and residents, who will often call our team to report a maintenance request and the Handyman will quickly arrive on-site to assess the situation and repair the issue. Generally this may be quick or easy tasks, like simple repairs, managing several maintenance reports at once and cleaning facilities. The preferred Handyman candidate will have basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical and customer service knowledge. This candidate will be skilled in a wide range of areas, but will also be able to recognize when a repair is outside of their skill set and make a recommendation to their supervisor.

Skills and qualifications include, but not limited to, the following:

• Ability to safely use common power and hand tools
• HVAC knowledge and repair skills
• Experience installing and replacing plumbing systems
• Strong communication skills with property management and tenants
• Self-starter with good time management skills

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proven working knowledge of MEP processes (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently and follow instructions
• Flexible schedule including nights and weekends
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with clean driving record – no more than 3 moving violations within past 3 years.
• Agree to required health screens/immunizations – ie. Flu vaccine, during peak flu season, etc.
• Pre-employment: 7 year criminal background check and 10 panel drug screen
